Book recommendations

I'm re-reading Travesty right now by john hawkes (he doesn't capitalize for some reason) and I forgot how good this book is. If your reading schedule is open right now, I highly recommend picking it up and reading it. It's only about 120 pages and it's really good.

I'm also reading pure genius in the form of Bruno Schultz. He's like Kafka if Kafka was happy (though evidently Kafka believed himself to be very funny). It's longer and it certainly requires more attention, but if you have the time, I'd pick this book up as well. It's called the Street of Crocodiles. It might be hard to find; I've heard that it's a rare book.

But darling, Kafka *is* funny. I mean, he brought us together, right? :)

For those who don't know, Monstro and I met when we were co-panelists at an English graduate student conference. He read a piece of fiction that might as well have been pulled from my thoughts. I read an imagining of what happened the night Kafka wrote his first "successful" story, "The Judgment." And then I hounded him until he agreed to show me the Chico nightlife. He was surprisingly slow on the uptake.

Clarification: I hounded Monstro, not Kafka.

The comments after the article are better than the article itself. They concern some of the things you've been blogging about.

Hmm... and copy paste isn't working on it. Sorry, it has to be manually entered in the address bar.

TinyURL is a great service that makes long URLs tiny. I use it a lot. http://www.tinyurl.com
