"Behind the intials was a metaphor, a delirium tremens, a trembling unfurrowing of the mind's plowshare. The saint whose water can light lamps, the clairovoyant whose lapse in recall is the breath of God, the true paranoid for whom all is organized in spheres joyful or threatening about the central pulse of himself, the dreamer whose puns probe ancient fetid shafts and tunnels of truth all act in the same special relevance to the word, or whatever it is the word is there, buffering, to protect us from." State of Depression

I want the dope that the economists are smoking.

I know nothing about economics. Nothing at all. Most boring classes I ever took were micro and macro economics. I fell asleep in every class. I never fall asleep in class.

...and yet, even a dumbass like me knows that if all the prices are going up, no one can sell their house, people are losing their jobs, and heating oil ammounts to 1/10th my yearly salary, we are in a recession. One might even say a depression. One might even say, "how do I get a work visa."

I am really tired of reading expert after expert tell me that we're just in a little slump and I'm starting to believe that expertise doesn't count for shit in this country.

You are correct, sir. Expertise counts for nothing in this country. The only thing that counts is confidence and pretending you're an expert.

Our industrial sector is nearly hollow, with production primarily limited to assembly of parts manufactured in other countries.

Our 'innovation' is limited now to gadgetry of dubious usefulness. Truly useful and good items are denied patents.

In order to do things 'cheaper' we've forgotten how to do things better. By exporting jobs and importing manufactured goods, we're bleeding the country of its resources.

According to AT&T, education is a sham here. We've dumbed down the education system so that everyone can pass, and this is the result.

The only thing we have now, that remains top-notch, is our military. Which is easy to explain, since that is where the money goes.
Our food has been turned into fuel, and has gone up in price due to lack of fuel. Americans are not interested in going back to the bicycle, unless it's electric powered, keeps you warm in winter, and has a radio. If it has a fake engine growl, it's there.

Idiocy (or campaign money) at the top levels has led candidates to lean toward hydroelectric, nuclear, or coal as the next generation's power production source. All of which are foolish ideas. The best possible blend, for humanity and the planet, would be a majority of wind-produced power backed by a minority of solar-produced power.

So, is this the BEST or WORST time for my family and me to relocate to Northern CA? It's possibly the best because the housing market sucks so bad that I actually may get a decent price -- even though it's going to be 5x more $$$ than Pittsburgh. OTOH, it's the worst because I have to sell my house in Pgh. in this market.

There *are* still those who respect and value expertise. I know I do. Some say that the world doesn't care what you believe. Whatever you believe, the world reflects it back to you as truth. Like that old saying, "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right."

So, my new-agey message for you is to simply decide that the world will value your expertise.

Well, of course they should honor my expertise. It's everyone else I'm worried about.

It's a great time to move to Northern California because chances are, the houses will eventually rebound and whatever you buy will be worth sixty miliondy billiondy dollars.

That's no lie.
