Walking over the river walk

So, my wife and I went to visit my sister, niece, mother and father in San Antonio last Summer. This was officially the first time that we had family near by to foist our child on, and as my parents were amenable to watching my child, the wife and I had a night out.

The wife got us a hotel room, a really nice one in a hotel right on the city's famous "river walk". The river walk, for those of you who don't know, is a city bounded bit of river about fifteen feet below street level. Mostly it is populated by bars and restaurants. Walking the walk, you basically feel like you're in a kind of Spanish canal populated by people who want to make you a mango Margarita. Basically, the place is a maze of bars that ends at a big mall and then the Alamo.

The Alamo, as anyone will tell you who's been there, is very small and also very disappointing. I recommend looking at its more prominent feature...like the guy in the white three piece suit in the middle of the heat wave screaming about how the end of the world is nigh. He's great. I mean he really gets into it. I asked my wife if it might not be the Christian thing to do to get that guy some water, but you know we didn't.

Alright so the point of this story and a little tip if you ever find yourself in San Antonio. Walk the river walk. Oh sure, you could go overland the two or three blocks to get to where you need to go rather than curving through the circuitous route of the river, but the city is not designed for you to do this. Okay, let me try this another way. You know how in Sci-fi, they fold space. Well, going over land to your destination is a lot like folding space. And you know how when you fold space there are always demonic creatures living in the matrixes between the dimensions. Yeah... The guy in front of the bus stop had a tattoo across half his face, and you know who else was there? The guy from the Alamo...except that it was like six P.M. and he was tired. You could hear him every so often mutter, "end...world...nigh..."
