My big fat novel

So, Mr. Blows Shit Up With Gas, you want to know about the Shock to the T. Well, no...no...it isn't published. This is what we call, "my big fat novel," which I began writing about the first day of graduate school, and well, am still not done with. I'm hoping to reach my literary prime some time in my early forties. Although, I wouldn't say hoping is the right word. Some time before I die I hope to find the time to finish the novel. As of now, my two jobs, infant son, and Ph.D. program pretty much suck up whatever plans I might have. In my spare time, I build stuff to sell on ebay because I know that I won't have a Summer job. Sorry, not to be a bit depressing.

But I do have over three hundred single spaced usable pages in my novel and I did post a couple things from its beginning on my blog a long while back so I point you to them now. I think its good but heh, I'll let others be the throwers of laurels. Here's the beginning at any rate. There's more throughout September 2004. I eventually stopped posting at Avram's request because, as he pointed out, why buy the cow when you can get the sex for free. The Drivler is sort of my unofficial editor, though who knows. I asked him to do a tit for tat kind of deal. He was supposed to send me something unpolished so that I could edit it and get him going on his sure to be exhilerating work, so of course, he's really really trying very hard to get me something that's a good example of his unpolished work. So, I won't get back the edits on my latest revision to my chapter until he's edited his unpolished work about six times more. And in order to finish out the quartet of people on my blog list, my wife has a blog too. By the by, everybody seems to enjoy your blog from my end.

There Mr. BSUWG, you now know everything there is to know.

***Three hundred pages single-spaced???!!!*** Is that 9-point Arial Narrow, by the way?

(Still, you're only about half way to the Tolstoy zone, as I calculate it.) I'll definitely check it out.

ps If you want a breather from the long form, check out NaNoWriMo in November. (That stands for National Novel Writing Month.) It's a fun activity -- you sign up and have to write a 50,000 word "novel" (technically a novella, I suppose) within 30 days.

"The Drivler is sort of my unofficial editor, though who knows"??!

Wait a minute. Didn't you forget to mention that the chapter I'm stalling on is chapter EIGHT? That chapter eight comes after 171 other single-spaced pages? That we've spent hours discussing single chapters? That we've spent hours discussing single pages?

Mr. Monstro, I see right through your cheap ploy. You're besmirching my good name as unofficial editor only in order to make me feel guilty enough to get back to editing your book.

Yes, Mr. Monstro, a cheap ploy indeed. And it just may work.

Yes Drivler, you see my ploy, but do you raise me a ploy? And where the hell is the book you're writing about our trip to N'Arlins mofo?
