quick note
Just a quick note to let you all know that everything turned out fine. We found a Mexican Food restaurant on Friday, and it turned out to be more than half way decent (though clearly they interpret spicy as either sweet or a bowl full of mashed jalapinos).
Also, I'd like to mention that Gabe over at Penny Arcade has spawned. He has pictures of his son up on his website if you are a fan of PA or of babies in general.

Yes I have heard of the dearth of "true" mexican quisine available on the East Coast. The same is true of Pittsburgh. Because well, such places are not the natural climes of that kind of chef. The majority population {notice I did not say minority whitey} is not used to the bewildering variety of ways to combine esentially the same salsa, beans, tortilla, and rice -- with a leetle queso and carne to taste.
But can you get kick ass Dominican? Absolutely. Cuban. Yes. Indian, Mongolian, Italian, etc, etc, etc? Yup yup yup. You can also get the one thing that my own environs does not have -- a decent Jewish delicatessen. Oy for a place where corned beef and pastrami rub jowls with fresh baked rye. There's always something you miss. JapanJen is currently bemoaning her inability to go down to 7-11 and get a slurpee. She's also avoiding the meat section of her local "Everything's 99cents store." But there are squid shaped candies aplently. There are always trade-offs.
